Happy Spring!

Hello everyone and welcome to Spring!

We've come to the busiest time here at the Micro-Farm. Every day we are working towards preparing for the big growing season. Seeds and seedlings are arriving from our nurseries and seed companies of choice, we've got tomato and pepper seedlings started in our craft room, and new critters have arrived in time for the coming of spring!

The new faces on the farm include 2 Jersey Wooly bunnies, a Call Duck drake, and a Wood Duck hen that we got at the Uniontown Poultry Association's first buy/sell/trade event of the year. For it being a mere 30 degrees out, a lot of people came out to swap livestock and supplies. We had a great time and are planning to attend future ones. I won't lie, Nate is lucky we got out of there without me bringing home a pair of Pygmy Goats - another farmer had a whole pen of them and boy was it tempting!! :) Goats will be moving onto the farm in the future - we just want to have a corral and shed built for them before they get here. The other newbies are 6 little spring chicks from Tractor Supply that I just couldn't resist. Three of them are mixed color Silkie bantams and the other 3 are Easter Eggers that will hopefully turn out to be hens for the laying flock.

As the daylight has gotten longer, our laying hens have ramped up egg production and we are averaging between 4 and 8 eggs each day out of 13 hens. We are thrilled with this as we have been able to bring farm-fresh eggs to many more people in our lives this year. It has been super exciting hearing back from folks who have never eaten farm-fresh eggs about their astonishment with the flavor and color of the eggs our girls produce. Bringing fresh food to people we care about is an action that brings us deep happiness and sense of fulfillment. After all, what is farming about? :) We are considering starting an "egg subscription" service to help us keep our egg orders organized and to best serve folks who buy eggs from us regularly when the demand is high. Please let us know if you'd like to sign up for an egg subscription so we can work out the details on how we might pursue this option.

Now, without further ado, I'll leave you with some pictures of the new faces on the farm and some sneak peek shots at the little seedlings we've got growing in our craft room.
